IC-Europe Division

International Co-operation (IC) for enhancement of external economic engagement is undertaken through bilateral as well as multilateral arrangements. IC Divisions of DPIIT are responsible for dissemination of information about investment climate and opportunities in India and investment facilitation. IC Divisions’ endeavour to increase economic co-operation with developing, as well as developed countries, for mutual benefits through different fora, such as Joint Commissions/Joint Committees, other bilateral channels like interaction with the delegations visiting the country, organizing visits abroad for discussions on issues of mutual interest and business/investment meets between Indian and foreign entrepreneurs, with the aim of stimulating foreign investment into India. DPIIT is also the nodal department for all bilateral as well as multi-lateral CEO’s Fora which is primarily engaged in promoting B2B engagements for promotion of economic relation.

The IC (Europe) Section of DPIIT deals with all matters/events relating to International Cooperation and Investment Promotion for European countries. The Division plays an active role in Investment Promotion and opportunities in India and by advising prospective investors about investment specific policies and procedures. The Section is also responsible for resolving issues arising out of existing investments from European Counties by following up with the concerned Ministries / Departments of Government of India and the State Governments concerned. The Division also promotes and facilitates foreign investments and joint ventures from European Companies through investment marketing, facilitation and after-care activities.

IC (Europe) Division act as nodal point for the following Joint Commissions / Inter Governmental Commissions:

  1. The India-Hungary Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation.
  2. The India-Sweden Joint Commission for Economic, Industrial, Technical and Scientific Cooperation.
  3. The India-Poland Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation.

Major High Level Meetings held:

1. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi addressed the World Economic Forum’s Davos Dialogue via video conferencing, on 28th January, 2021. PM spoke on the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution-using technology for the good of humanity’ and also interacted with the CEOs during the event. Closed-door interaction was also held between Indian Union Cabinet & leading international business leaders with a view to strengthening reforms & shaping government’s agenda. The session was moderated by Mr. Borge Brende, President, WEF and the themes were Technology and Digital-led Growth; Infrastructure & Logistics; India as an Export-Nation/Atma Nirbhar Bharat- Make in India for the World; Integration of Global Supply Chains; India’s Recovery and Role in a Post-COVID World and Predictability in Governance (Tied to Ease of Doing Business). The panellists of the session were following:

  1. Sh. Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport & Highways & MSME;
  2. Sh. Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, Railways & Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution;
  3. Smt. Smriti Irani, Hon’ble Minister of Women & Child Development and Textiles;
  4. Sh. Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas.

During the event, Hon’ble Commerce & Industry Minister, Shri Piyush Goyal also highlighted India’s strong FDI position and government measures to improve business climate to sustain growth. (More....)

2. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi and Her Excellency Ms. Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark, co-chaired a Virtual Summit between India and Denmark on 28th September 2020. The discussions were done on bilateral relations, Covid-19 pandemic and global matters of interest to both countries, including climate change and green transition with a view to accelerating sustainable economies and societies. 3. Hon’ble Commerce and Industry Minister, Shri Piyush Goyal, participated in the 19th Indo-Swedish Joint Commission for Economic, Industrial and Scientific Cooperation (JCEC) in Stockholm in Sweden from 22nd to 23rd October, 2019. The JCEC discussed areas of cooperation for both the sides and CIM reiterated the importance placed by the Prime Ministers of both the countries on the Joint Action Plan and Joint Declaration on Innovation Partnership. 4. Hon’ble Commerce and Industry Minister, Shri Piyush Goyal and UK Secretary of State for International Trade, Her Excellency, Ms. Elizabeth Truss co-chaired India-UK 14th Joint Economic and Trade Committee meeting virtually on 24th July, 2020. Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Shri Hardeep Singh Puri and UK Minister of State for International Trade, His Excellency Mr. Ranil Jayawardena also participated in the meeting. 1. Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Commerce and Industry Minister held meeting with Mr. Viraj Mehta, Head of India and South Asia, World Economic Forum virtually on 18th August 2021.

2. Hon’ble CIM held meeting with Rt Hon Alok Sharma, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and President, The 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties' (COP26) on 17th August, 2021 in New Delhi.

3. Hon’ble CIM held Virtual Conference meeting with Mr. Zdravko Pocivalsek, Minister of Economic Development & Technology, Slovenia on 29th June, 2021.

4. Hon’ble CIM held Virtual Conference in World Economic Forum - Mobility Stewardship Board Meeting at the International Transport Forum's 2021 Virtual Summit on 26th May, 2021. The discussions were done on Global Maritime Transport, Decarbonization in Global Heavy Transport, Aviation Sector and Scaling Institutional Finance for Sustainable e-Fleets and Infrastructure.

5. Hon’ble CIM participated in Global trade outlook Session virtually in World Economic Forum on 12th May 2021. The discussions were done on access to COVID-19 critical resources, Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) etc.

7. Hon’ble CIM participated as Guest Speaker at the Opening Session of Spain India Business Forum along with Hon’ble Minister of Industry, Trade & Tourism, Spain on 22nd April, 2021.

8. Hon’ble CIM addressed the French industry about investment opportunities in India virtually on Tuesday, 23 February 2021. Leading companies such as MEDEF, India-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry also participated in the event.

9. Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Commerce and Industry Minister along with Ms. Anna Hallberg, Minister for Foreign Trade and Nordic Affairs, Sweden participated in the 12th edition of India-Sweden Nobel Memorial Week held virtually on 11th December, 2020 and also interacted with around 200 Swedish companies in India. The purpose of the meeting was to interact with the Swedish company community in India, and hear about their experiences and adjustment process in the wake of the pandemic, as well as to hear more about their investment plans and their need for support from Swedish and Indian governments to enable a conducive investment climate.

10. Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble CIM held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Velle Skinnari, Minister of Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Finland was held on 7th December, 2020 on bilateral commercial relations and industrial investments.

11. Virtual India-Italy Business Meet in collaboration with Italian Embassy with focus on food processing sector on 15th July 2020. Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, Secretary, DPIIT and Ambassador of Italy participated in the event. Virtual trade fair B2B meetings were held during the event, sessions on Fruits and Vegetable processing, Milk and Dairy Products Processing, processed meat processing, packaging and bottling, Mega Food Parks and cereals processing were also held.

12. The 4th meeting of India - UK Fast track mechanism was held virtually on 16.10.2020, under the co-chairmanship of Shri Shailendra Sngh, Additional Secretary, DPIIT and Ms. Jan Thompson, Acting High Commissioner, UK. The Fast track mechanism facilitated successful resolution of issues of the British companies.

13. Webinar on India-Poland: Green Technologies to Steer Future Collaboration held on July 26, 2021. Shri Rajendra Ratnoo, Joint Secretary, DPIIT addressed the event. HE Mr Adam Burakowski Ambassador of Poland to India also addressed the interaction. The webinar was held to further explore and nurture business collaborations with Poland in clean and green technologies.

14. Web based seminar by Norwegian business association of India held virtually on 17th December 2020. The seminar was attended by approximately 40 companies from Norway. Shri Rajendra Ratnoo, Joint Secretary, DPIIT participated as Chief Guest Speaker as a part of the investment promotion efforts. The webinar was also attended by Consul General, Mr. Arne Jane Flolo.

15. Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in partnership with Embassy of Bulgaria in New Delhi and Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency (BSMEPA), organised an India-Bulgaria Business Forum on 3 December 2020. Shri Rajendra Ratnoo, Joint Secretary, DPIIT participated in the event. The aim of the event was to continue the business engagement between both sides and exploring business collaboration in the areas of ICT, renewable energy; automotive and components; pharma; food processing; tourism & film industry and many more. H. E. Mr. Stamen Yanev, Deputy Minister of Economy of Bulgaria also addressed at the India-Bulgaria Business Forum.

16. Invest India Roundtable for Swiss Companies in India Embassy of Switzerland held virtually on 20th October, 2020. During the Roundtable Swiss companies presented their business issues towards the responsible officials from the concerned Government Departments. Shri Rajendra Ratnoo, Joint Secretary, DPIIT, Ambassador, Dr. Andreas Baum, along with the Head of the Economic Section, Mr. Florin Müller, and Senior Economic Advisor, Embassy of Sweden also participated in the event.

17. Web based seminar with foreign investors from Hungary focused on on enhancing India-Hungary bilateral economic interaction in the backdrop of India’s recent policies initiatives in India held on 23rd September 2020.
