Reg. 187
SHELLS
Uncompensated holes in Water Tube Boilers
The maximum diameter of any unreinforced opening shall not exceed
'd' as shown in Figures 9B and 9C
subject to a maximum of 203
millimetres.
The notations are as follows :
K = |
P x D |
Eqn.
20 |
1.82 fe |
where,-
P = working pressure;
d = maximum allowable diameter of opening (in the case of an
opening of elliptical or round form, the mean value of the
two axes of the opening shall be taken for d);
D = outer diameter of the shell;
e = actual thickness of the shell;
f = allowable stress;
When K has a value of unity or greater, the maximum size of
an unreinforced opening should be 51 millimetres (2 inches).
